Apartment renovation using as many known-labor materials as possible. Fixtures, cabinets, hardware, and surface treatments were chosen from factories with known labor histories or from countries with robust labor and manufacturing protections. The general contractor was chosen based on broad on-site knowledge to minimize the use of subcontractors—a key site of wage dissolution. Most of the structure and spatial arrangement of the original apartment was maintained to reduce waste.
